In the cases of an emergency or when you do not have the funds in your prepaid BSNL, you still could send a SMS for free now. The BSNL would ask the receiver if he wishes to receive the SMS from this particular number, if receiver intends to receiver the SMS he has to reply in yes and he will than got delivered the SMS.
The charges for receiving the SMS in the Circle are Re. 1 per sms and Inter Circle or National SMS would cost Rs 2 to the SMS receiver.
To avail this Free SMS (India to India and BSNL to BSNL) you have to send the SMS to this number: 58899 > Followed by the recipients mobile number > receiver will receive the message from the BSNL system asking if he would like to pay for reviving the message from the sender > If he replies YES, the message would be delivered to him on the above mentioned charges.
